BFR Sports and Fitness readies for new program year
Youth and adult programs are starting up for the fall at BFR. After
school sport skill classes will begin the week of September 6. The fall
adult fitness class schedule is underway with a few classes slated yet to
start in October. Soccer Intramurals for youth ages 4 and 5 will begin
September 14.
In addition, BFR is introducing a Family Recreation Pass
that allows families to use the recreational gym/arena times and walking track for an affordable fee.
The Family Recreation Pass is being introduced for those families who want to use the recreational facilities but not the fitness center.
According to director, Carole Enneking, "in this economy, some families are not able to afford the full facility membership or have found that the adults do not have time to use the fitness center. The family recreation pass is an affordable way for families to play together, take part in our family-oriented activities and use the indoor track."
For an annual fee of $150, the recreation pass is offer unlimited access to the indoor track during all building hours, plus free access to the gymnasium and arena during posted "open" hours. BFR is designating certain hours that will remain open for youth and/or adult recreation.
"It has been frustrating to members in the past that the gym and arena
are used for scheduled hours so much. As a non-profit facility, BFR has to generate income from the facility as much as possible. The Board of Directors has agreed to keep certain hours unscheduled except for organized recreational activities and/or family/kids nights," noted Enneking.
The popular U6 Soccer Intramural program will run for 4 weeks beginning on Tuesday, September 14 and continuing on Tuesday and Thursday nights until October 14. Players must have turned 4 years of age by 8/1/2010 and have been under the age of 6 years by that same date. The U6 program combines basic soccer foot skills with game skills. Players are assigned to teams coached by parent volunteers. Cost is $30 ($15 BFR member). Registration will continue until September 8.
Adult Fitness classes continue to be offered at BFR. Morning options
include Total Body Conditioning (Monday through Friday 7:30AM-8AM), All Star Workouts, (Monday and Wednesday 8:30-9:30AM) Low Impact Aerobics (10:00-11:00AM Mondays), Strength & Flexibility (Thursday 10-11:00AM), YogaFit (Friday 8:30-9:30AM), and Water Exercise (Level I Monday through
Thursday 9:30-10:15AM or Level 2 Tuesday and Thursday 8:30-9:30AM).
For those with a lunch break, stop by BFR to follow a self-paced Circuit in the Fitness Center (available anytime of the day). Evening classes are somewhat limited with Water Exercise (Monday 6-6:45PM), and Cardio Sculpt (Thursday 6-7PM). Plans are underway for Zumba Latin-based Dance Fitness (Monday 6-7PM) and YogaFit (Wednesday nights at the Library) to resume in October. Saturday Morning Aerobics will resume on September 11 at 9AM.
BFR Adult Fitness classes are open to new participants at any time. No registration is required and the first class is always FREE. Stop by the BFR front desk for more information. A Fitness Class Challenge is
scheduled to run August 30-October 2. Participants need to attend 10
classes during that time and each will receive 3 free classes. All BFR
classes will be offered without charge October 4-9, 2010.
Youth programs will begin the week of September 6. Monday will offer PK All Sports at 11AM, Tuesday is tennis (3:15PM) and football (3:30PM) day, Wednesday will offer volleyball (3:30PM), Thursday will be the day for basketball (3:30PM) and Friday is dodgeball (3:30PM).
Young children may enjoy Tiny Tots, sessions offered on Wednesday and Friday, 10-10:30AM. Open Play time is offered on Wednesday and Friday from 11-12noon, as well (cost $1 per child each visit). Adults looking for fitness challenges should consider full membership at BFR or try out the Ultimate Fit program. Ultimate Fit was introduced last summer to challenge those who are active in exercise to move to a higher level. Under the direction of a BFR trainer, Ultimate Fit offers a group experience that will include core workouts, body resistance exercises, running, strength training and more. Workouts change from fitness center based, to gym or track locations. Ultimate Fit runs twice weekly for a month at a time. Participants can choose Monday/Wednesday 5:30-6:15AM, Monday/Wednesday 6-6:45PM or Tuesday/Thursday 7-7:45PM.
