Margaret Wilgus 1928 - 2017
Margaret I. “Peggy” Wilgus, 89, of Bluffton and formerly of Spencerville, died at 1:55 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, in the Bowling Green Hospice Center.
She was born March 26, 1928, in Lima, the daughter of Howard and Violet Sockrider Cook, who are deceased. Her step-father Howard Preston is also deceased. On Feb. 27, 1948 she married Lewis E. Wilgus, who died May 23, 2014.
Surviving are two children; Amy J. (Tom) Doty of Bluffton and Gerald D. “Jerry” (Lisa) Wilgus of Wapakoneta; two daughters-in-law; Penny Wilgus of Lima and Patricia “Trish” Wilgus of Spencerville; 13 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are two sons; Edward E. “Ed” Wilgus, Jr. and William L. “Bill” Wilgus.
Peggy was a 1948 graduate of Lima South High School and atteneded The Ohio State University for two years. She retired as a computer operator for the former Fawcett Collecting Agency in Lima.
She was a member of the Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Bluffton. While in Spencerville she was a long time member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where she was the choir director for 35 years, starting in 1955, and serving on several of its committees. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines International in Sidney and enjoyed also singing in her ladies quartet. She was a member of the Associated Credit Bureaus of America.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in the Chiles Laman Funeral Home, Bluffton Chapel, with Rev. Jeremy Mann officiating. Burial will follow in the Spencerville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Bluffton from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday.
Memorials may be made to the Emmanuel UCC Church or to Bridge Health and Hospice Care.
