Winter birds, healthy comfort food, frosting a snowman cake and more
Winter birds, healthy comfort food, frosting a snowman cake and several other topics are among this winter’s Our Version of Adult Learning (OVAL) classes offered by the Bluffton Senior Citizens Association, according to Tonya Meyer, Center director. Pre-registration is requested for each program. Some have a minimal charge.
January
Tuesday, Jan. 15, 10 a.m. – Daniel Hodges, Johnny Appleseed Parks, presents “Winter Birds.”
Wednesday, Jan. 23, 10 a.m. – Jonah Agner, The Food Store, presents “Healthy Comfort Food.” Participants will get to eat whatever he makes. Cost is $3 for members, $4 for non-members.
Thursday, Jan. 24, 10 a.m. – Deb Stockford, The Frosting Studio, presents “Frosting a Snowman.” She will demonstrate her technique for decorating a snowman cake and participants get a taste. Cost is $2 for members, $3 for non-members.
February
Monday, Feb. 4, 10 a.m. – Janean Shannon present “Senior Olympics.” She has competed in national and international Senior Olympics. She competes in javelin, shot put and discus. She holds records in Kentucky and Michigan.
Monday, Feb. 18, 10 a.m. – Robert Kemp from Ohio Northern University, Ada, presents “Government Funding.” His talk covers where does the government get its funds, and what does it spend the funds on.
March
Monday, March 4, 10 a.m. – Corwin Croy presents “Biking from Bridge to Bridge.” He has biked from a 100-year-old bridge in New Bremen to a similar one near Pandora. His talk includes history, travel and adventures in biking.
Monday, March 18, 10 a.m. – Bruce Chesser presents a pottery demonstration. He brings a potter’s wheel and shows how to throw a pot.
The Senior Center and Maple Crest will offer Hancock County historical talks as a joint effort.
The February program is at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 11. The program centers on Emory Adams, a prominent Findlay person who has a park named in his memory.
