Jonathan Andreas discusses morality and money Sept. 27
Dr. Jonathan Andreas, professor of economics at Bluffton University, will present the Colloquium, “Morals Are a Must for Making Money and Why You Worry I’m Wrong,” at 4 p.m. on Sept. 27 in Centennial Hall’s Stutzman Lecture Hall.
During the presentation, Dr. Andreas will discuss ethics as taught in business and economics.
“These disciplines have overemphasized selfishness and economist Milton Friedman’s view that the only responsibility of business is to maximize profits,” explained Andreas. “Ethics education in business has usually been ineffective at best and has often been counterproductive.”
Dr. Andreas will share research in social science and biology which highlights ethical motivations as an innate part of the human condition, and he will suggest alternative directions forward based on that research.
Andreas has served as the Howard Raid Professor of Business for the past two years. The title honors the late Howard Raid, a Bluffton business professor from 1947-79.
This event is free and open to the public.
