Beavers knock off Anderson 1-0 in HCAC Tourney
The Bluffton University men's soccer team made an early Elijah Zimmerman (Archbold) goal stand up for the second straight match as the Beavers knocked out Anderson University 1-0 for their first ever Heartland Conference Tournament win. Bluffton moved to 9-7 on the season and are now assured of the first winning season since the Beavers went 9-8 in 1993. Anderson bows out with an 8-9-2 mark for the season.
The sensational sophomore hit paydirt in minute 10 and that was all that mattered on Saturday when the visitors moved into the Heartland Conference semi-finals as Bluffton's record-setting season rolls on.
Zimmerman and Jackson Clark (Mount Blanchard/Riverdale) combined for four of Bluffton's six shots at Anderson. Freshman net-minder Angel Velasco-Urbina (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) nailed down his 5th shutout of the season and 2nd in four days thanks to six saves against the Ravens!
Anderson finished with a 10-6 advantage in shots and an 8-1 spread on corner kicks. Both teams were whistled for 11 fouls in the quarterfinal matchup.
Bluffton will travel to number 2 seed Hanover College for a 2 p.m. kickoff in the Heartland Conference semi-final on Wednesday, Nov. 3.
