Big 2nd half lifts Lady Pirates past Kenton
The Bluffton High School girls basketball team broke away from a halftime tie and defeated visiting Kenton 49-35 in non-league girls basketball action Tuesday night, December 28.
The contest was tied 20-20 at halftime, but Bluffton outscored the Wildcats 29-15 over the final 16 minutes to win going away.
Freshman post Ayla Grandey scored a season-high 22 points to pace the Pirate girls to victory.
The Lady Pirates improved to 8-3 with the win. The Wildcats dropped to 3-6 after the defeat.
Pirate senior guard Sami Scoles contributed 12 points with two treys. She tosse dins even of he rpoints in the first stanza.
Bluffton took control with a 17-11 third period, then stymied Kenton 12-4 in the final stanza. Grandey poured in a dozen points in the third quarter.
Ali Harpel led Kenton with 11 points on the strength of three trifectas.
The Pirate girls connected on 19 field goals, including 16 two-pointers and three triples. They converted eight of 13 free throw attempts (62 percent).
The Lady Wildcats sank 12 field goals, hitting seven two-pointers and five trifectas. Kenton converted six of its 10 of its free throw tries (60 percent).

Bluffton (1-1 NWC) resumes conference play when the Pirates host co-league leader Crestview (9-1, 3-0 NWC) Thursday, January 6.
They then visit former NWC foe Paulding Jan. 8.
