Sally Reeder taught at Bluffton College
Sally Jeanne (Hogan King) Reeder, 90, died April 7, 2022 in her residence at The Springs of Lima, OH.
She was born April 30, 1931, in Waltham, Massachusetts, to Edgar Jay and Jeannette (McGarrity) Hogan. The family moved frequently during her childhood, living in Ohio, Pennsylvania, California, New York, Maryland, and Florida, all before her graduation from Rayen High School in Youngstown.
Sally attended Wellesley College from 1949-1951 as a Pendleton Scholar. She later completed her education at Bowling Green State University, earning BA and MA degrees while raising her four children. She taught Spanish briefly at Delphos St. John's high school and at Lima Westinghouse before joining the faculty of Bluffton College, where she remained for 10 years.
In 1952 she married Raymond E. King, Jr. of Wooster, OH, an Air Force veteran, whom she met while both were students in Massachusetts. They lived in Lima, where he was an engineer in the aerospace division of Westinghouse Electric Corporation. He died in February 1960. In March 1961 she married Richard S. Reeder of Lima, at that time director of Encore Theatre. They made their life together in Lima and Bluffton until his death on June 16, 2014.
Sally is survived by the following children: Gary King of Louisville, OH; Nancy King Ferguson (William) of Worcester, MA; and Mark Reeder (Brenda) of Lima. A son, Gregory King, is deceased. She is also survived by the following grandchildren: Chad King (Michelle), Sarah King Hartzler (Douglas), Emily King Coulter, Matthew Reeder, and Megan Reeder Pasion (Randy), all of Lima; Heather King Harley (Jason) and Rachel King Miller (Shawn), in the Columbus area; and Gretchen King (Chris Dang), of Texas. Eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild also survive. A brother, Jay Hogan is deceased. A sister, Judith Cline (James) of Coupeville, WA, survives, as do two half-brothers, James Hogan of Washington, D.C. and John Hogan of Tallahassee, FL.
Two things Sally especially enjoyed were sharing her love of Spain with family, especially her grandchildren, and researching her genealogy.
Sally was a member and Elder of Bluffton Presbyterian Church. She also was a past trustee of the Bluffton Public Library and the Bluffton-Richland United Way. Memorial gifts may be made to the church or to the Richard and Sally Reeder Family Scholarship Fund at Bluffton University.
A Celebration of Life for Sally will be held at a later date.
