Patrol investigates June 13 airplane crash near Bluffton
The Findlay Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating an injury airplane crash that occurred on June 13, 2022 at approximately 5:15 p.m. The crash occurred in a field south of the Bluffton Airport.
Robert S. Searfoss, age 48, of New Bavaria Ohio, was flying a 1968Cessna 172 when he lost control of the air craft crashing into a field.The air craft struck nose first and flipped over. Mr. Searfoss suffered serious injuries and was flown to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Toledo Ohio. Mr. Searfoss was using his safety belt.
The Patrol was assisted by the Hancock County Sherriff’s Office, the village of Bluffton Police Department, the Village of Bluffton Fire Department, Mercy Health Life Flight and the FAA. The crash remains under investigation.
