Carl E. Ziessler served in U.S. Marine Corps
Carl E. Ziessler, age 88, of Upper Sandusky, passed away with his family by his side, on Monday, July 25, 2022, at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Upper Sandusky.
Carl was born on December 6, 1933, in Deshler, Ohio, to Winfield and Helen (Beck) Ziessler. He married Jean Kempf on June 21, 1958, in Bluffton, Ohio and she survives.
He is also survived by 2 children: Teena (Kyle) Bowman of Harpster, and Tim Ziessler of Upper Sandusky. 6 grandchildren: Brenna (Dave) Doty, Chelsea (Ben) Porter, Trevor (Kari) Bowman, Hannah (Charlie) Walker, Brittany Ziessler, and Ben Ziessler, along with 10 great-grandchildren.
Carl is also survived by 3 brothers, Winfield (Carol) Ziessler of Findlay, Richard (Betty) Ziessler, and Owen (Kay) Ziessler, both of Bluffton, and 2 sisters: Virginia Shields of Curtis, Ohio, and Nancy (Gary) Stoddy of Huntsville, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Janet Hanna.
Carl was a 1953 graduate of Arcadia High School and went on to serve his country during the Korean War in the United States Marine Corp.
Carl retired as a captain of the Upper Sandusky Police Department after 20 years. Before that, he had at the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio Division of Wildlife. After he retired, Carl worked with his brother Richard in home construction and also for Hickory Grove Golf Course.
He was a former member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Upper Sandusky, along with the Fraternal Order of Police.
For hobbies, Carl always kept busy enjoying hunting, fishing, working around his home, woodworking, and his Model T Truck that he bought as a young man. Most of all Carl loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Services for Carl E. Ziessler will be private with Pastor Steve Sturgeon officiating.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wyandot Memorial or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351.
