Senior Center newsletter and travel opportunities

The August Golden Age News, distributed to members of the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center, is packed with activiteis including travel apportunities.

Below are upcoming local, day, and overnight trips led by staff members Tonya and Debbie.

RTA BUS TRIPS

On Wednesday, August 17, we will take the RTA bus to Lima to visit the Allen County Museum. Meet at the Senior Center at 10:35 to catch the 10:48 a.m. bus. The bus will cost $5 or less. The bus does not give change so bring small change. Bring a sack lunch. We will have lunch in the garden next to the museum. The museum asks for a $5 donation. There is no limit to how many people can go. Stop in and talk to Tonya if interested.

On Thursday, September 15, we will take the RTA bus to Lima for lunch at Kewpee east. Meet at the Senior Center at 10:35 a.m. to catch the 10:48 bus. The cost of the bus will be $5 or less. Lunch at Kewpee will be on your own. See Tonya for details.

If you wish to ride the RTA bus on your own sometime and need help with the details, come and talk to Tonya or Debbie. We have route info at the Senior Center that you can borrow.

COACH TRIPS WITH TONYA
August 3-6 - Mississippi River Cruise We will be departing at 7 a.m. and should be back around 9:30 p.m. on August 6.

August 30 - Hamilton We will be eating at Smoky Bones before enjoying the hit Broadway show. The trip is closed but we are taking stand by.

Sep 23 – Oct 2 - Canadian Rockies by Rail This trip has been closed as all the tickets for planes and trains have been assigned. A valid passport is required for this trip and you must be fully vaccinated. Trip by Country Travel Discoveries. We will depart on September 23 a 4:15 p.m. and spend the night in Detroit.

BUS TRIPS WITH DEBBIE

 Fall Trip to Holmes County Wednesday, September 14. Yes, another fun-filled trip to Holmes County. There’s so much to do that I had to plan two trips in 2022. We will stop for “morning fuel” at Miller’s Bakery, then a visit to the Amish Mennonite Heritage Center. After that we will enjoy a mouth-watering afternoon meal at an Amish homestead. Next a trip to The Farm at Walnut Creek where we will take a wagon ride to see exotic farm animals and tour the farm. Final stop is just down the road to the Walnut Creek Cheese store where we will find *many* different goodies to take back home! Cost is $108 due now. This trip is full. We are taking stand by.

German Village Tour – Tuesday, October 4th, join us as we take an “Amazing Tour” in Columbus, OH!  We will be having lunch at Schmidts’s Sausage Haus, and listen to an authentic accordion player as we dine! Then we hit Schmidt’s Fudge Shop for our dessert. After that we will take an hour to visit some unique shops: The Red Stable, and Helen Winnemore’s. Then we begin our coach tour of historic German Village, and a stroll through the beautiful Schiller Park (weather permitting). We will end our coach tour and stop at Tiki Botanicals and The Book Loft.  Stop for chocolate and coffee at Winan’s for refreshments before we head home. Tour cost is $105.00 due Sept. 2. Trip departs at 9 a.m. This trip is full. We are taking stand by.

Historic Clifton Mill – Tuesday November 29th, Let’s Celebrate the holidays together with a trip to the historic Clifton Mill.  One of the country’s finest, 4 million illuminating lights over the mill, the gorge, the riverbanks, trees and bridges.  And a 100 foot “waterfall” of twinkling lights. The flip of one switch turns all the lights on at once transforming night into a fantastical winter wonderland which includes a Miniature Village, a Santa Claus Museum, a Toy Collection and a spectacular synchronized lights and music show that features the old Covered Bridge. We will stop for supper at Young’s Dairy for a meal on your own. Tour cost is $79.00 due Sept. 27. Departs 2 p.m. This trip is full. We are taking stand by.

White Christmas @ LaComedia December 7, Springboro, OH. The classic film is the inspiration for this heartwarming musical comedy. White Christmas features the classic songs “Blue Skies,” “Sisters,” and the most famous holiday song of all “White Christmas.” We will be having a scrumptious afternoon buffet before the show. Don’t miss out on Irving Berlin’s most popular show of all time. $98.00, departing at 8:30 a.m. Due Oct. 11.
