John H. Eckenwiler served in the U.S. Marines
BEAVERDAM--John H. Eckenwiler, 84, passed away October 11, 2022 at his residence. John was born February 15, 1938 in Beaverdam to the late Roy and Georgine (Bishop) Eckenwiler.
On December 31, 1971 he married Susan Dale Packer Eckenwiler who preceded him in death on March 8, 1998.
John graduated from Beaverdam High School and served in the U.S. Marines. He worked as a mechanic at Westinghouse/Sunstrand from 1959-1995. John enjoyed attending car shows with his classic car. He raised five beautiful women, he taught them hard work, generosity and acceptance of others. John taught them how to wake up early and enjoy a good cup of coffee. He instilled the love of old country music including Waylon, Willie and the boys, Loretta and Patsy. John showed them the love of animals and how to have conversations with them.
Survivors include five daughters, Deta (Jeff) Miller of Lafayette, Tana (Randy) Crossley of Lafayette, Rachel (Ron) Cramer of Rushsylvania, Rebekah (Tony) LaJeunesse of Xenia, Stefani (Chad) Koontz of Bluffton; fourteen grandchildren, Emma, Charles, Matthew, Amy, Terri, Andrea, Alex, Marc, Luke, Sarah, Chase, Sidnie, Aiden and Cora; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and a sister, Sue Hefner of Spencerville.
John was preceded in death by three brothers, Lynn, Howard, and Vernon Eckenwiler and a sister, Sally Dunahay.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2022 at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Beaverdam-Richland Fire Department.
