Bluffton men's and women's soccer vs. Defiance recap
Men’s soccer
The Bluffton University men's soccer team downed rival Defiance October 19 at Defiance, when senior Dalton Taynor (Troy/Miami East) delivered the only goal of the match with 4:51 to play.
Bluffton improved to 6-6-3 overall and more importantly, 4-3 in the Heartland Conference. Defiance fell to 1-11-5 and 0-6-1 in the HCAC. It also snapped an 11-match losing skid at the hands of the Yellow Jackets.
Bluffton will load up the bus on Saturday, Oct. 22, when the Beavers travel to Hanover College in southern Indiana for a heavyweight battle with the Panthers. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. following the women's tussle with Hanover.
Women’s soccer
The Bluffton University women's soccer team dominated rival Defiance from start to finish in a 3-0 victory over the Yellow Jackets, playing at home on a cold Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2022. Bluffton improved to 4-9-1 overall and 3-4 overall, while Defiance fell to 3-12 and 0-7 with their sixth loss to the Beavers in the last eight meetings.
Sophomore Clara Matthews of Bluffton lofted her first career tally over the Defiance keeper, giving the Beavers a 3-0 victory in their first-ever home match under the lights.
The team hits the road for its final Saturday regular-season contest on October 22. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
