Pirate tennis edges Bath in opener

LIMA--The Bluffton High School boys tennis team won a tight match at Bath in their season opener on a chilly Monday evening, March 27.
The Pirates were awarded a 3-2 win over the non-league hosts.
Blufton won at second doubles and third singles, and led in the first doubles match when it was halted by rain in the third set.
Pirate junior Wade Ginther triumphed at third singles over Bath sophomore Taylor McCoy 6-2, 6-3.
Bluffton junior Ayden Diller and freshman Nick Lovett won handily at second doubles over the Bath duo of Sahib Singh and Cody Miller 6-3, 6-1.
Pirate freshmen Grady Coonfare and Isaiah Kohli led their first doubles match when rain stopped play in the third set. The Pirate pair won the first set 6-4, lost set two 4-6, and led 3-2 in the third when the match was stopped.
Bluffton senior Braeden Ackerman lost in straight sets at first singles, as did sophomore Branson Hilty at second singles.
Bath junior Daniel Bolon won 6-3, 6-0 and classmate Ezra Bolon also won 6-3, 6-3.
Weather permitting, Bluffton is slated to play four road matches in as many days to start the season this week.
The Pirates play at St. Marys Tuesday, at Elida Wednesday and at Perrysburg Thursday.
