Mildred J. James was a teacher
Mildred J. James, 86, passed away on April 12, 2023, at her home.
Mildred was born December 17, 1936 in Bluffton, to Waldo and Glenna (Stewart) Hanna who preceded her in death. On December 22, 1956 she married E. Elwood James who preceded her in death on July 23, 2019.
She was a graduate of Cory-Rawson High School and later obtained a bachelor’s degree in teaching from Ohio Northern University. She was a life-long member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church. She was also an active member of Findlay Glass Club, Melody Circle, the Gathering Basket, and the Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed gardening, collecting teddy bears, traveling with her sister Carolyn, cross-stitch, knitting, reading, and Findlay Glass. She also hosted several exchange students; Estella, Martha and Joe. She enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her three children, Carol Steegman of Arlington, Kurtis (Mary) James of Jenera, and Matthew James of Findlay; five grandchildren, Jamie Steegman, Mackenzie (Tyler Snyder) James, Loryn Morton, Abbigail (Brandon) Falk, and Morgan (Dakota) Lenhart; eight great grandchildren and one on the way; a sister, Carolyn May of Elyria, OH; a nephew, Karl (Ann) Moyer of Anderson, IN; two sisters-in-law, Joanne Hawk of Findlay and Dorothy James of Dunkirk; numerous nieces and nephews; and family friend, Stephanie James.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mildred was preceded in death by a sister, Delores Moyer.
Services will be held April 17, 2023 at 10:30 am at Pleasant View United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Noggle to officiate the service. Burial will be in Clymer Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be Sunday, April 16, 2023 from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services - Bluffton.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant View United Methodist Church.
