Pirate boys soccer beats Lancers, clinch 9th straight NWC crown

The Bluffton High School boys soccer team beat Lincolnview 3-1 in a Northwest Conference championship showdown match Monday night, October 2, at Steinmetz Field.
Bluffton improved to 4-0 in league play and won the title with their 42nd straight conference triumph without a loss. The Pirates are 5-7-2 overall after the win.
The Lancer record dropped to 6-5-2 overall and 2-1-1 with the defeat, good for second place in the league.
The Pirates led 1-0 at the half on an Ollie Combs goal in the 18th minute.
Pirate Gavin Amstutz made it 2-0 on a goal in the 50th minute off an assist from Combs.
Lancer Jackson Evans netted a goal in the 65th minute to pull the visitors within 2-1.
Pirate Theo Andreas scored a goal for the third straight game to seal the outcome in the 79th minute.
Bluffton put 10 of its 19 shots on goal, while the Lancers directed five of 15 shots on target.
Keeper Truett Diller made four saves in goal for Bluffton. Lancer keeper Mason Waltmire was credited with seven stops.
