Rocket boys basketball wraps regular season with win vs. Continental
By Matt M. Stutz
The Pandora-Gilboa High School boy’s basketball team completed their 2023-24 regular season Thursday night February 22, with the undefeated Putnam County League title as they completely overwhelmed the Continental Pirates by a final of 59-19.
It was Senior Night at the Launch Pad in their match-up against the Pirates, with seven senior basketball players honored in front of the home crowd.
Continental stole a little of the excitement as they scored the game’s first four points, but from there it was all Rockets. P-G scored the next thirteen points to close out the quarter; jumpstarting a 33-2 run to finish off the half. P-G led 33-6 at the halftime break and grew the lead to 53-14 at the end of three quarters of play.
Senior Aiden Harris got off to a hot start, pouring in ten first quarter points and accumulating twenty by halftime, on his way to a game high 26 points. His last two came on a breakaway dunk to close out his evening.
Twin brother Colin Harris finished with 9 points while Nate Maag and Zach Neuenschwander each totaled 7 points. Cam Verhoff came off the bench for 5 second half points and Cory Gerten hit a fourth quarter 3 pointer for his 3 points. Aidan Morris and Owen Huffman each hit a single free throw for their 1 point each.
The PCL championship is the Rocket’s first since the memorable 2017-18 season that ended at the state tournament.
P-G also won the JV game.
