Findlay Post investigating life threatening crash in Union Township 

UNION TOWNSHIP__The Findlay Patrol Post was investigating a non-injury crash on Interstate 75 southbound near mile post 148 at around 0602 hours on February 24. D & D Towing was stopped in the left lane on the northbound side of Interstate 75 to tow a vehicle from the scene with its flashing lights on.

A 2024 Honda CRV, driven by 69-year-old, John Scaccia from Dayton Ohio, was traveling northbound on Interstate 75 in the left lane. The 2024 Honda CRV  struck the 2013 Ram tow truck in the rear, before coming to rest and caught on fire shortly  after. The driver and right front passenger of the Honda were removed from the vehicle and taken to Blanchard Valley Hospital.  

The right front passenger of the Honda CRV, 12-year-old Jessica Scaccia of Dayton Ohio, was transported to Blanchard Valley Hospital, and then to Lucas County Children’s  Hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver and passenger of the Honda CRV were both wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. The 2013 Dodge tow truck was unoccupied at the time of the crash. 

Interstate 75 northbound was reduced down to one at for several hours. Impairment is not a factor in this crash, and this crash remains under investigation.  

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by Mount Cory Fire and EMS,  Bluffton Fire and EMS, Hanco EMS, Dick’s Towing and Hess Towing.
