Joanne Overmyer was a master baker
D. Joanne Overmyer, 92, passed away February 28, 2024 at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. Joanne was born June 5, 1931 in Antwerp, Ohio to the late Chester and Caroline (Snook) Hawkins. On November 22, 1951 she married Don Overmyer who survives.
Joanne graduated from Antwerp High School, Antwerp, Ohio and attended the Ohio State University and Defiance College. She was a caterer and master baker, baking many wedding cakes in the area. Joanne was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Bluffton and longtime member of the Telesis Service Club. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, collecting antiques, attending auctions and flea markets, traveling and playing bridge. Joanne was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, Don Overmyer of Bluffton; a daughter, Melissa (Rick) Pottenger of Painesville, Ohio; a son, Don (Jose Gonzalez) Overmyer II of Palm Springs, California; two grandchildren, Matthew (Stacie) Pottenger of Savannah, Georgia, Elizabeth (Jonathan) Anspach of Frederick, Maryland and a great-granddaughter, Flora Joanne Anspach.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Jeanne Pepper.
Joanne's services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2024 at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton. Pastor Bob Clinger and William Herr officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be Sunday, March 3, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
