Pirate softball crushes O-G in sectionals

OTTAWA __ The visiting Bluffton High School softball team crushed Ottawa-Glandorf 16-1 in first round sectional Div. III action Wednesday, May 8.

The Pirate girls improved to 2-7 with the big win. Bluffton advanced to the sectional finals against top seed Parkway (18-3) Friday at 5:00 p.m.

The sectional winner goes on to the Lima Bath district.

O-G fell to 2-19 with the defeat.

The Pirates jumped on top 5-1 after two innings. Bluffton then scored 10 runs in the top of the third inning to break the game open and win the five-inning contest.

Emma Green smacked a double, stroked two singles and had two runs batted in. She also scored two runs.

CONTINUES

Lauren Bassett doubled twice, scored a run, and drove in one run. Danielle Cross singled twice, drove in three runs and scored twice. Faith Maple hit a double, singled, scored a run and had one RBI.

Ashley Fleece scored three runs, singled in a run and stole two bases.

Karleigh Davis singled in two runs. Macy Schaadt hit a single and scored two runs. Olivia Hobensack contributed three RBI.

Both teams left six runners on base and made three errors.

Bluffton out-hit O-G 13-3 and drew seven walks.

Haelee Raye earned the itching win. She hurled five innings, allowing three hits and no earned runs. She struck out three and walked two.
