Fall pond fish sale: Allen SWCD taking orders
By Casey Heilman
Allen SWCD District Administrator
Due to the popularity of its spring fish sale, the Allen Soil and Water Conservation District has decided to hold a Fall Fingerling Fish Sale and is accepting orders until Tuesday, September 10.
Thanks in part to the crisp autumn air, fall is a fantastic time to introduce any new species of fish or boost the population of a pond. Not only do the cool water temperatures help reduce stress on the fish, it also makes for a quicker adjustment to a pond’s environment.
The same species of fish offered in May will be offered this fall. This includes Yellow Perch, Largemouth Bass, Red Ear Shellcrackers, Bluegill, Channel Catfish, Japanese Koi, Hybrid Bluegill, Fathead Minnows and White Amur. In addition to fish, there is also pond conditioner, fish food and a book on pond management available for purchase. The deadline for ordering is Tuesday, September 10, 2024.
Fish can be ordered online through PayPal or using an order form. Links to PayPal and the form are at www.allenswcd.com/ Or you may contact the Allen SWCD office at 419-222-0846.
Fish will be delivered to the Allen County Fairgrounds on Thursday, September 19 between 8:00 and 9:30 a.m. in an aerated tank truck. All fish are live and must be picked up in person during the designated pick-up times. Those purchasing fish will need to bring their own containers lined with a clean, non-scented garbage bag that are filled with fresh pond water from their own pond.
Once the fish are placed in the bags, they will be tied shut and injected with oxygen for those traveling longer distances. This will ensure that the fish will be in good condition when released into the pond. Those purchasing fish should plan on transporting their fish directly to the pond without delay after pick-up.
Fish must be picked up on the day of delivery or your order will be canceled. There are no refunds for unclaimed fish.
