ONU Astronomy Club to host 'Galaxies of Spring' May 6
The Ohio Northern University Astronomy Club invites area residents to "The Galaxies of Spring," an astronomy event in the ONU Observatory on Friday, May 6, from 9 to 11 p.m.
During the viewing, telescopes will first follow the crescent moon as it descends in the west and then Saturn as it rises in the east. After twilight, participants will hunt down some galaxies near the North Galactic Pole, which will be well placed near the meridian.
The ONU Observatory will be open for public viewing on approximately two evenings of each month. These will be held on Fridays, except in the case of a special event such as a lunar eclipse. The observatory has a cool control room and public restrooms, which are kept warm. However, because the telescopes are in an unheated outdoor area, visitors are advised to dress appropriately.
In the event of cloudy or unfavorable atmospheric conditions, the event will be canceled. Please consult the observatory website for news on future viewing dates and possible cancellations and to view maps of the observatory: www2.onu.edu/~j-pinkney/astro/publicevents.html
The event is free and open to the public.
