The Scouts from Bluffton Troop 256 had a busy weekend. Part of the Troop headed north to Oak Harbor to attend a two-day Atomic Energy Camporee at the Davis Bessie Nuclear Power Plant, near Lake Erie.
Another group of Scouts from the Troop, along with their family members helped carry and sort food at the Bluffton Food Pantry on Saturday.
The Bluffton Troop 256 had 14 Scouts, three leaders, and one Scout parent attend the Camporee, which had over 180 attendee's, from 15 different Scout Troops from across Ohio and Michigan.
The Scouts spent two nights tenting at a local camp grounds, while spending all of Saturday at Davis Bessie.
They attended classes on nuclear power, electricity, ran test equipment like geiger counters, checked out the cooling towers and ponds, and pushed buttons in the simulation control room.
In order to attend the Camporee and earn their Nuclear Science merit badge, the Scouts also had to participate in two other workshops. They visited the Physics Lab at ONU, and had a separate workshop held at the Sportsmens Club where they had cloud chamber experiments, and built atomic models of a molecule and 4 of its isotopes.
Despite the large number of Scouts attending the Atomic Energy Camporee, the Bluffton Troop was still able to have a strong presense on Saturday afternoon at the Bluffton Food Pantry.
There were five Scouts, one leader, two Scout parents plus three other Scout family members to help carry and sort the large quantity of food donated during the U.S. Post Office's annual food collection drive. That's some busy Scouts
