As a board-certified radiation oncologist, I've noticed a concerning trend in my patients–an increase in head and neck cancers caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) in middle-aged men. While traditionally head and neck cancers were linked to heavy tobacco and alcohol use, we are now seeing a shift in the causes of these cancers, with HPV becoming a leading cause.
ADA--The Bluffton University baseball team took advantage of a beautiful Thursday afternoon, making the short trip to Ohio Northern and coming away with a 9-6 win over the 12-7 Polar Bears. Bluffton improved to 8-7 on the season.
ONU scored a run in the first, two of the unearned variety in the third and added a sacrifice fly in the fifth on the way to a 4-0 lead heading to the sixth, but that's when the fun started. Senior Nick Diana (Batavia/West Clermont) cut the deficit in half when his two-bagger to left center drove home Justin Maurer (Springfield/Kenton Ridge) and Jack Towell (Batavia West Clermont). One out later, Diana and Ezra Deitering (Ottawa/Miller City) crossed the dish thanks to a Polar Bear error as the visitors knotted the score up at 4-4 with Evan Houseman (Springfield/Kenton Ridge) at the plate.
ONU led off the home sixth with a Nate Webb homer and had the bases juiced with just one out, but freshman Jordan Fent (Springfield/Kenton Ridge) came on and got a strikeout and flyout to end the frame.
This week YouTuber Heavy D Sparks–who is also a co-star of the Discovery Channel series Diesel Brothers–posted a video on the successful end to the search for his dream helicopter, the Dolphin (a.k.a. Dauphin). The video is titled “How a $250,000 Scam Helped Me Find My Dream Helicopters.”
March 31, 2023 is the one year anniversary of the line of duty death of Bluffton Police Officer Dominic Francis. The wreath pictured here is placed in front of Town Hall, 154 N. Main St., where the public is invited to visit and remember the contributions and character of this Bluffton first responder and Cory-Rawson teacher and coach. The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce has announced that due to the low number of registered teams, the Wine Tasting and Trivia Night at Southgate Lanes origianlly scheduled for April 1 has been cancelled.
