2-20-10 Marsh Run meets Riley Creek

THE SHADOW KNOWS

The Marsh Run is a small stream that flows into Riley Creek near the Buckeye Quarry. This view from the Benroth Bridge shows how picturesque the spot is when there's snow on the ground and a sun to cast long shadows. To view other Icon feature photos click here.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
Movie review
By Kerry Bush

After seeing Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, I wondered if the screenwriter of the movie even read the book the movie was supposedly based on or if he just got a summary from Wikipedia.

Although come to think of it, even Wikipedia with all its editors can give a better synopsis of Rick Riordan's epic novel The Lightning Thief than the screenwriter of this movie did.

There are times when small packages offer huge surprises. This photo represents one of those times. The original photo is a snapshot measuring 2 by 3 inches. It is taken from a family album, but carries no explanation.

When enlarged the photo reveals much. Of course, you recognized the view is Main Street Bluffton taken from what today would be in front of Common Grounds coffee shop looking north. Judging the Ford Model T on the left, which appears to resemble a 1915 model, that puts this photo in the mid-1910s.

A Bluffton, "Indiana" vehicle

This plate needs a little explaining. Check out the name of the car dealer and the hometown of the car dealer. You'll find the information in the top left corner of this photo, which shows an Indiana license plate found on the Bluffton University campus.

Yes, there's snow on the ground. Even so, it's time to start thinking about the 2010 Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce arts and crafts show.

The show is now is accepting registrations from crafters. This year's show is Saturday, May 22, in downtown Bluffton, according to Fred Steiner of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce.

Except for public schoolteachers and farmers, it is the rare individual who spends her whole working life at the same organization. Rarer still for one to remain at the same institution for 45 years. So at a recent annual President's Dinner at Bluffton University, there was true cause for celebration.
