Post script to the state soccer finals
The Icon held posting this photo by Marvin Foster for an appropriate moment between fall and winter sports seasons.
There was too much static last week for this picture to get its proper attention.
Holding the microphone is Tim Stried, Ohio High School Athletic Association director of information services. In the photo he presents Bluffton's boys' soccer team its Division III state runner-up trophy.
What many Pirate sports fan may not know is this:
Tim is a Bluffton University graduate, athlete and former university sports information director. He is also Jason Diller's brother-in-law, to bring the connection one step closer.
We also know that he follows the Icon since he "likes" things on the Icon Facebook from time to time.
We understand that when Tim presented the trophy he made a reference to Icon owner, Fred Steiner, and a Pirate sports book published about two decades ago, hoping it might be updated to include the 2019 soccer team.
Tim and Pirates fans will be interested to know that something like that is in the works. Just stay tuned.
