Red Lights mean stop! Next week is National School Bus Safety Week
Oct. 19 to 23 is National School Bus Safety Week and the theme is "Red Lights Mean STOP!"
This year’s national campaign reminds motorists that they need to use caution around school buses and come to a stop when the bus is displaying its red flashing lights.
Ohio law requires motorists to stop clear of the school bus until the bus driver cancels the red lights.
“I’d like to thank the community for always looking out for the safety and well-being of our students at Bluffton,” said Josh Kauffman, middle school principal and transportation director of Bluffton schools.
“I also want to thank all of our bus drivers who begin and end each student's day at Bluffton. They are the first and last classroom for a lot of our students and do an exceptional job, especially with all the new safety protocols and such that are required this year.”
In Ohio, more than 15,000 school buses transport 800,000 children between home and school. School bus drivers, parents and school officials constantly work to maximize the safety of these students; however, they are at increasing risk when outside of the bus at their bus stops.
