SHANNON thanks for 2022 American flag display

CLICK HERE for list of donors; also posted in front of Citizens National Bank, 102 S. Main.

The familiar sight of American flags in on Main Street in downtown Bluffton isn't something residents of Bluffton should take for granted. The display is the work of volunteers and is made possible by donations from dozens of individuals, families, businesses and organizations.

The S.H.A.N.N.O.N. Service Club organizes the project and has provided the following thank you list. Coordinator Duane Bollenbacher notes that the Exchange Club started the program in the early 2000s. The S.H.A.N.N.O.N. Service Club took over when the Exchange Club disbanded in 2006 and has been providing flags for the downtown since then.

The American Legion and the Village of Bluffton have been essential to the program in assisting with putting up flags. Bollenbacher notes, "Jerry Cupples of the American Legion picks up 37 flags and attaches them to the rods that get attached to the street poles. Then the American Legion and the village attach them to the street poles." The American flags are installed prior to Bluffton University Commencement and Fishing Derby Day, both in early May.

Those interested in the program can contact Bollenbacher at 419-358-7365 or [email protected].
