Memorial Day invitation from American Legion Post #382
Dr. Bur Shilling to speak at Maple Grove Cemetery ceremony
An invitation from Bluffton American Legion Post #382.
A tradition which dates back more than 150 years continues to bring veterans and families together in Bluffton. The tradition: decorating the graves of America’s war veterans, now known as Memorial Day.
The members of Bluffton American Legion Post # 382 understand the bond and tradition. “We invite citizens of Bluffton and surrounding communities to join us in remembering those who died for our Freedom.”
The Bluffton, Ohio Memorial Day Parade will be on Monday, May 27, 2024. The Parade forms at 9:15 a.m. and moves out at 9:30. The service at Maple Grove Cemetery will begin at 10:00 a.m. We ask that those who wish to be in the parade refrain from throwing candy to the crowd. We also ask citizens to please remove their hats as the American Flag passes.
Bur Shilling, DMin, PhD, will be our Memorial Day Speaker. Shilling graduated from Cory-Rawson High School in 1966. He and his wife Cathy live in the Bluffton area, have two children and eleven grandchildren. Shilling was asked to speak at the Bluffton American Legion’s Memorial Day Service because he is a Gold Star family member. Dean Richard Shilling, Bur’s brother, was killed while serving as a Marine in Vietnam on November 30,1969.
After the Memorial Day Ceremonies, the Bluffton American Legion Post will hold its annual Chicken BBQ in the Citizens National Bank parking lot on Main Street from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. The meal price is $10.00.
In the event of bad weather, Memorial Day ceremonies will be held at Bluffton Middle School, 116 S. Jackson St. Bluffton, Ohio.
