The Feb. 28, 2011, flood was devastating, but imagine cleaning up after the 1913 flood. Here's a photo of that flood taken on Cherry Street. The building on the very far left houses the Village Cut 'n' Curl today.
The building at the right was a Triplett storage building. Believe it or not, a fire occurred in the building during the height of the flood, probably caused by a short circuit. Bluffton firemen put out the fire, somehow.
Former Bluffton resident David J. Rempel Smucker has published a biography of his grandfather, Boyd D. Smucker, who also once lived in Bluffton.
The book, titled "Bid Me Discourse," has as its subtitle: "Boyd David Smucker (1878-1936) Orator and Mennonite Educator." Boyd Smucker was a student and a professor at Goshen College in Indiana and a professor at Bluffton College, teaching oratory, presenting recitations, directing dramas, coaching debates, raising funds and recruiting students.

The Bluffton school board accepted the resignation of Jim Raabe on March 21. Raabe has been with the school system for 30 years and will retire effective June 2. He has taught accounting at Bluffton High School and served as the high school athletic director.
