Make way for Grand Shannon. The Bluffton Sportsmen's Club 67th annual trout derby, held Sunday, May 1, will honor the village sesquicentennial by naming its number one tagged ground "Grand Shannon."
This year's derby has over $4,000 in cash and prizes on tagged trout.
Icon viewers had a hand in naming this year's fish. The Sportsmen's Club invited The Icon to poll viewers on four suggested names for this year's tag number 1. Icon viewers chose "Grand Shannon."
BFR will offer several youth tennis programs this spring and summer, according to Carole Enneking.
BFF Sports and Fitness offers traditional lessons for youth as well as the newly created USTA Quickstart program.
Limited space for returning players is available in the remaining four-week session of traditional lessons.
Summer programs will include Quickstart program as well as traditional lessons. Quickstart (for ages 6-10 years) blends tennis skills with smaller court play.
A sesquicentennial community choir is organizing for the community worship service planned June 26 in the Bluffton Presbyterian Church lawn.
Mark Suderman, music director of First Mennonite Church, will direct the choir. The choir will have two rehearsals. The first is at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 15. The second is Friday, June 24, with the time of that rehearsal to be announced.

Members of the Bluffton Presbyterian Church youth group will hold a 30-hour famine May 6-7. This is the sixth year the the youth "go hungry so others may eat."
This year's country focus is Haiti. The youth will raise money for Haiti and also for relief efforts in Japan.

Deer Creek Shoppes along with Anne Stratton held an antique appraisal night at Maple Crest Senior Living Village on Thursday, April 14.
There were 15 items appraised that evening ranging from a flow blue lamp, and other ceramics, to quilts, silver, pictures, toys and textiles.
Some of the items were very unique, including:
* a Bavarian cut glass ruby red vase,
* an old pottery piggy bank,
* a World War I Military outfit,
* a five-claw Japanese garden seat, and a feather stuffed quilt that was hand stitched and pieced circa 1870-1890.
