The Pandora United Methodist Church will be hosting a free community meal on Wednesday, Feb. 29. The meal is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the church felliowship hall, 108 E. Washington St., Pandora. The menu will be baked potato bar, chili, cake, coffee and punch.
Dr. Gerald Mast, professor of communication at Bluffton University, will present a program Thursday, Feb. 23, on his recently published book, "Go to Church, Change the World: Christian Community as Calling."
Beginning with refreshments at 3:45 p.m., the event is free and open to the public in the Musselman Library Reading Room on the Bluffton campus. Mast will sign copies of his book, which will be available for purchase. Its target audience includes Christian education directors, Sunday school classes and book clubs.
A limited number of tickets remain available for the next performance in the 2011-12 Bluffton University Artist Series, by The Ohio State University Flute Troupe at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, in Yoder Recital Hall.
Established in 1985 by Katherine Borst Jones, professor of flute at Ohio State, the troupe consists of both undergraduate and graduate flute majors. Known for its high level of performance using all of the instruments of the flute family, the ensemble is recognized as one of the premiere flute choirs in the nation.
Katherine Borst Jones, founder of The Ohio State University Flute Troupe, will present master class sessions for flute students and instructors as part of Bluffton University's Flute Day, Thursday, Feb. 23, in Yoder Recital Hall.
Participants should bring their flutes for the hour long sessions, the first of which will open the Flute Day program at 2 p.m. Students will have the chance to perform and receive feedback from Jones, a professor of flute at Ohio State who formed the troupe in 1985.
The Board of Trustees of Bluffton Public Library has announced a change in its meeting schedule for February 2012. The board meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 6:30 p.m. in the Riley Board Room of the library at 145 South Main St., Bluffton.
The Ada Kiwanis Club will hold its 60th annual Pancake and Sausage Day on Thursday, March 15, at the Ada First United Methodist Church, 301 N. Main St., Ada. Serving hours will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The club will be serving all-you-can eat pancakes and whole hog sausage. The cost is $6 each, with children under 10, eating free.
I lose things. Constantly. Sometimes I find them, sometimes not. Sometimes I replace the lost item and find the old one months later. I find some comfort in realizing that this is not a new (i.e. older-age) problem. It's been ongoing since childhood.
It's another certain sign of spring - the SHANNON Service Club's community garage sale and chicken barbecue take place at the end of this month.
Garage sale Feb. 24-25
The commuity garage sale is Friday, Saturday, Feb 24-25. It's the ninth annual sale. Hour are Friday, Feb. 24, from 4:30-8:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Feb. 25, from 9 a.m. to noon.
The event is at The Centre, 601 N. Main Street. Parking is free and admission is just $1. Based upon previous events, the sale traditionally attracts from 30 to 35 vendors.
