Peter Suter of Shannon Theatre announced that "The Avengers" (PG-13) will be shown at the theatre from May 4-10. It will be premiering at midnight on Thursday, May 3 in 3D. All 3D seats are only $6.00.

Show times follow:

2D - Each evening at 7 PM with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 1:30.

3D - Each evening at 9:30 PM with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 4 PM.

Services for Steven G. Joseph of Alger, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Ada Full Gospel Church by the Rev. Karen Rarey. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery in Alger.

Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Ada and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. He died at 9:44 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2012 as the result of a bicycle/automobile accident in Jacksonville, Fla.

Pianist Jimmie Fruchey of Cridersville recently reached the "coda" of his piano-playing years as an entertainer at Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio.

For the past 13 years Fruchey performed monthly as a volunteer for MHCO residents. Actually Bluffton is just one of his monthly gigs. He has also entertained in 10 area homes for seniors.

Fruchey recalls that he was drawn to Maple Crest Senior Living Village when it opened in 1999 when his sister, who lived across the street from MMH, encouraged him to visit.

Three Bluffton High School artists are winners in the Buckeye Creativity Awards competition. The three, from left are Kyla Dawson, Carissa Luginbill and Brooke Heinze, according to Vickie Garmon, BHS art teacher.

The competition sponsored by Lima Optimists is titled The Ohio State at Lima Buckeye Creativity Awards. Judges select 21 items, consist of a variety of poems, short stories and artworks to be published in the Hogcreek Review Journal.

This year there were 400 entries. Carissa is a senior and Brooke and Kyla are juniors. Each student received a gift card.

The Hancock County Sheriff's Office will staff extra patrols during the next two weekends. These patrols are in conjunction with prom activities at area high schools, according to Sgt. Matt Kinsinger of the Hancock County Sheriff's Office.

Blufftn's next American Red Cross blood drive is from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursday, May 17, in the Middle School gym.

Persons who donate blood that day will receive a t-shirt.

The Bluffton Shuffleboard Club announces is summer state tournament schedule.

The regular playing schedule for club members is Monday and Saturday at 10 a.m. and Thursday at 5: p.m. All times are weather permitting, and all adults are welcome to play.

The following state tournaments will be hosted by the Bluffton club:
Mildred and Clarence Brunn Doubles on May 31, June 1 and 2
North American Singles on June 7, 8 and 9
Crowe Memorial Doubles on July 12, 13 and 14
Bluffton Doubles on Aug. 16, 17 and 18

A discussion of Mary Ann Shaffer's book "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" will take place in the family room of Maple Crest Senior Living Village on Memorial Day (Monday, May 28), at 3 p.m. Maple Crest Senior Living Village is located at 700 Maple Crest Ct., Bluffton.

Copies of the book are available at Bluffton Public Library, 145 S. Main St., Bluffton.
