Three couples who are residents of Mennonite Memorial Home celebrate wedding anniversaries in July. They are:

Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio will hold its annnual summer concert on the lawn at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 19. The event is at the Mennonite Memorial Home, 410 W. Elm St., Bluffton.

Ice cream will be served and entertainment will be provided by Pantasia, Findlay High School's steel drum band.

The Mennonite Memorial Home's July worship schedule is set.

July is a busy month at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center. Here is a list of events planned.

Children ages 2-6 years will combine sport activities and swim lessons

through the Gym and Swim program at BFR, according to Carole Enneking, BFR director.

The program will meet on Mondays, July 9, 16, 30, Aug. 6, and 13 from 4:30-5:50 p.m.

The program meets at BFR for parent-child skill activities, then move to the Bluffton Community Pool for a swim lesson.

A parent/adult is required to work with each child both in the gym and swimmming pool. Instructor of the program is Kelly Honse, BFR swim staff.

Fireworks from a previous Freedom Fest'

The Bluffton Lions Foundation invites the public to attend the eighth annual Freedom Fest on Saturday, June 30, at the Bluffton University football stadium.

The event kicks off at 5 p.m. with games and inflatables for the kids and hotdogs, popcorn and homemade ice cream for the whole family.

Scheduled entertainment includes Dancers' Elite at 5 p.m. and 5 Miles High beginning at 6 p.m. Live duck races will run throughout the evening and the event culminates with a fireworks show at dusk.

If you've ever entered The Bluffton Icon high school, college or NFL football contests, you realize that it's three yards and a cloud of dust, week after week.

Although it is hardly July, The Icon is working on this fall's contest - call it the dream stage.

We'd like to hear from contestants on ways we could make the contests more interesting. One thing for certain is that our tie-breakers need repair. But, beside that, if you could create a weekly football contest, how would you do it?

Joyce N. Doty, 55 of Baltimore, Md., and formerly of Bluffton died May 28, 2012 at her residence. She was born in Lima on Nov. 19, 1956, and was adopted and raised by David and Magdalene (Geiger) Doty who preceded her in death.

Joyce was a 1975 graduate of Bluffton High School. Following her graduation, she served active duty in the U.S. Army from 1976 to 1988 and was put on the Army reserves until 2000.

Three newly-minted Bluffton University football coaches wasted no time getting involved with Lauren's First and Goal Football Camp.

Assistant coaches Richard Ciccone, Jonathan Cooley and Jon Wheat recently joined more than 110 other college coaches for the third-annual Lauren's First and Goal Football Camp on Sunday, June 17, at Otterbein University. Ciccone takes over as the wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator, while graduate assistants Cooley and Wheat will direct the safeties and defensive line, respectively.
