Richland Manor has always been known for having big-hearted staff members.The staff seems to always go above and beyond to help residents feel more at home.

One staff member, Flo, who is a Richland Manor nurse, goes to great lengths for the past 10 years by hosting a picnic at her home for current and former residents and their family members.

On June 11, she hosted her annual event and over 30 residents attended. Flo and many volunteers from Richland Manor made the picnic special for the guests by making spectacular dishes and desserts.

How do you get to Pandora from Bluffton? We need the quickest route so we can attend the 2013 Riley Creek Festival on Friday evening, Aug. 9.

The event include lots of family-oriented activities. These include an antique machinery display on Main Street, a farmers' market in the alley by Riley Creek Pharmacy, a raffle for NASCAR tickets and a YMCA kids' zone in the grass area off the town parking lot.

Other events includes free kids' carnival games in the United Methodist Church lawn, P-G band and P-G cheerleaders performing at the fire station at 6 p.m.

Continuing a look at yearbook advertisements, here's one from the 1926 Bluffton College Ista. At Siefield's Bakery you could buy sandwich bread. The bakery was located in what is today The Food Store on South Main Street. The owner was Herb Siefield.

It's a garage saler's dream weekend. The Lincoln Highway 2013 Buy-Way Yard Sale, stretching across Ohio and passing just south of Bluffton takes place Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 8-9-10.

According to Susie Stratton, "Fill a cart with as many hanging baskets, tropicals, quart perennials, flats or pots of annuals for just $50."

Zak Kuhlman and Chris McClain, Bluffton High School seniors, were invited to try out for coast-to-coast baseball and been accepted to join a team that will travel from Florida, to Arizona and to Puerto Rico.

Zak has made the postion of pitcher and Chris as first baseman.They are now raising money for their travel expenses. Persons interested in contributing to their expenses can make donations at Panache, Town and Country Flowers, Polished by Joan and Diller Flooring.

Two dozen Chinese teenagers likely gained more from a two-week visit to Bluffton University than just increased knowledge of English, according to their language teachers.

The students, ages 14-16, were in Bluffton July 23-Aug. 6 as part of a Summer English Camp sponsored by Mennonite Partners in China. They were from the city of Nanchong, China, which has partnered with Bluffton for a series of educational and cultural exchanges.

Activities are picking up for Bluffton Middle School students this month. Here's some important back-to-school information from the school website pertaining to students in middle school students.

2013-2014 SCHOOL YEAR REGISTRATION
MIddle School registration for students entering the 6th, 7th and 8th grades will be Wednesday, Aug. 14 and Thursday, Aug. 15, from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m.
