Arielle O'Neal won first place in her class and the Bluffton High School powerlifting team lifted 6,650 pounds at the Kenton State Powerlifting Meet this past weekend. Here are Bluffton's results:

• Arielle O’Neal -1st, top squat and deadlift in her weight class (7th grade, 685 lbs. total weight)

• Olivia Amstutz -3rd (7th grade, 545 lbs. total weight)

• Hannah Conely - 3rd, top squat in her weight class (10th grade, 650 lbs. total weight)

• Jadyn Barhorst - 4th (9th grade, 585 lbs. total weight)

-An E Elm St. resident reported receiving a threatening letter in the mail.

A Jenera resident reported that the passport that he had ordered was never delivered. 

Joseph E. Pope, 75, died on Sunday, March 16, 2014, at 6 p.m. at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton.

He was born on Dec. 22, 1938, in Dunkirk, Ohio, to William and Nellie (Gillen) Pope and they preceded him in death. On April 17, 1965 he married Bonnie Lou Zurcher and she survives in Ada.

He retired from Ford Motor Company of Lima, after working for 32 years. He was a member of the UAW Union #1219.

To better serve individuals with special circumstances, disabilities, chronic conditions or other healthcare needs throughout the county, Allen County Public Health recently implemented a Functional Needs Registry system. Ready Allen County is an online, web-based survey tool that allows residents to register if they have an access or functional need, or may have difficulty during an evacuation because of physical or cognitive limitations, language barriers or lack of transportation that may prevent them from safely evacuating or relocating during a disaster or other emergency.

It's another great benefit of being a member of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce. The chamber is provide its members with free one-on-one social media consultations this spring.

Vicky Myers, Bluffton University intern with the chamber and Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs, provided a workshop on Pinterest, Facebook and LinkedIn following the March 14 chamber breakfast.

The U.S. Small Business Administration and its partners are hosting a series of free small business seminars designed for minority and women business owners.

This initiative is a broad effort to strengthen and expand business ownership among these two groups. The Small Business Development Series will help small and minority businesses to access resources that can help them grow and enhance their entrepreneurial skills.

The Bluffton Lions Foundation, Inc. received a one-year matching grant totaling $61,600 from the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation to expand the greater Bluffton bike and pedestrian pathway system in the Hancock County portion of Bluffton.

The announcement was made at the March 14 Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce breakfast.
