Robert Zimmerman, 84, died at 6 p.m., May 30, 2014.  He was born Dec.25, 1929, in Beaverdam to the late Raymond and LaDonna Williams Zimmerman. On Nov. 5, 1950 he married Elizabeth "Betty" Pepple and she preceded him in death on Oct.15, 2008.

Wednesday's thundershowers were an odd mix of serious flooding on one property and mere sprinkles on another. The Icon has heard reports of rain of .25 inches all the way to over 4 inches.

Perhaps the heaviest hit area was between Lincoln Highway and State Route 81 north of Ada.

Kay L. Assmann, 108, died May 28, 2014, in Knoxville, Tennessee.  Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday June 7 at 3580 Road R, Pandora - the family homestead.  Arrangements are incomplete at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.

The Dough Hook is grilling for lunch!

Marlena Ballinger of The Dough Hook, 117 N. Main St., Bluffton, said that the downtown meat market will grill for lunch on Wednesdays this summer.

The menu includes:
• Hamburgers
• Cheeseburgers
• Brats
• Various salads and cold drinks.

The first Be A Beaver Triathlon is set for Saturday (May 31) in Bluffton.

Beginning at 8 a.m. at the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool, the event will include a 400-meter pool swim, a 20-kilometer bike on nearby country roads and a 5K run through village streets and the Bluffton University Nature Preserve.

Sponsoring the triathlon are CenturyLink, a Fortune 500 telecommunications firm; Shirley’s Gourmet Popcorn Co. of Bluffton; and Muddy River Bicycle Co. of Findlay. Community partners are the village of Bluffton and the community pool.

Robert E. Barnett, 95, died at 12:04 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, at Bluffton Hospital. He was born on Aug. 27, 1918, in Whitehouse, Ohio, to the late Paul Barnett and Bertha (Studer) Barnett. He was married for 71 years to Mary Marshall Barnett who survives. Their wedding took place in San Antonio, Texas Dec. 24, 1942. 

Start the summer by attending a carnival-style event hosted by BFR Sports & Fitness on Monday, June 2, from 6-8 p.m. 

Activities for families with young children will include face painting, Minute-to-Win-It challenges, Twister, three-legged race, sack race, wheelbarrow race and two special triathalon events for youth. Parachute activities will be included at the end of event. Parents and children can “get active” together at this event. Tickets (50 cents each) will be required to participate in the races and contests.

That's Reagan Mittendorf and Libby Frazier performing "Dancing Stars," during the Bluffton elementary year-end talent show. The show, an annual event for over 20 years, took place on May 23. Fourth and fifth graders auditioned for 16 spots in the show, which was presented to their classmates in the cafetorium.

Tom Langhals,  president and owner of Colonial Surface Solutions and Diamond Manufacturing of Bluffton, presented the program “The Challenges of Business” at a recent Bluffton Lions Club meeting.

In the 15-plus years since completing cosmetology school, Mandi Kinn has dreamed of opening a multi-service salon in Bluffton. After months of hard work renovating a turn-of-the-century Main Street house into a modern salon, Kinn will open Spectrum Salon on Tuesday, June 10, at 422 N. Main St., Bluffton. She plans a grand opening from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 21.
