Robert Barnett was active in many Bluffton organizations
Robert E. Barnett, 95, died at 12:04 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, at Bluffton Hospital. He was born on Aug. 27, 1918, in Whitehouse, Ohio, to the late Paul Barnett and Bertha (Studer) Barnett. He was married for 71 years to Mary Marshall Barnett who survives. Their wedding took place in San Antonio, Texas Dec. 24, 1942.
Other survivors include their children, David (Marilyn) Barnett of Albany, N.Y., Jayne (Richard) McGarrity of Bluffton, Jim (Nancy) Barnett of Syracuse, N.Y., nine grandchildren, Ian Barnett, Jeannie Chong, Matthew Barnett, Beth Retkwa, Mary Barnett, Joel Barnett, Katherine Walton, Robert McGarrity and Addison McGarrity. Robert also had six great grandchildren and a sister, Helen Dimick of Perrysburg.
Robert received a bachelors degree from Bowling Green State University and a second degree from OSU, Columbus. He served in the Army Air Corps at Hondo Air Field, San Antonio, Texas, and at Langley Field, Va. He worked as a process engineer at Westinghouse and Ford Motor Company in Lima. In Bluffton, Robert served on the Library Board, as a Boy Scout leader, an elder of the Bluffton Presbyterian Church and was a 50-year member of the Lions Club. He was a past member of the Bluffton school board.
Funeral Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at Bluffton Presbyterian Church with Pastor David Good officiating. A reception will follow. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Bluffton.
