Bluffton Community Preschool will host an open house from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 25, in First United Methodist Church, 116 Church St., according to Shelly Matijevich, director. The preschool is housed in the church.
The open house allows parents and caregivers to learn more about the preschool. It also enables them to see what the classrooms are like and other activities and events take place during the school.
Here's a "one-of-a-kind" Bluffton High School boys' basketball team. It's the 1964-65 season and is the first-ever for the combined school districts of Bluffton and Beaverdam. Interesting to note that there are five Beaverdam players and five Bluffton players.
Somewhere in the past the identity of a "Bluffton" student and "Beaverdam" student disappeared. But during the first few school years from '64 on, you were identified by one or the other community.
RICHMOND, Ind. - The Bluffton women’s basketball team used a 21-2 start to the game to easily defeat Earlham College, 81-59, on the road on Wednesday, Feb. 18. The Beavers moved into a tie for second in the HCAC standings, improving to 12-5 in the conference and 17-7 overall, while the Quakers slipped to 7-17, 5-12 in the conference. Bluffton’s 17th victory is a new school record for wins in a season!

The Bluffton Senior Center would like to thank Forever In Stitches and Rick and Ruth Grihalva for the very generous donation of a Pfaff hobby 1022 sewing machine. This great donation valued over $100.00 will be used during Deb Beer’s Sewing Workshops at the Senior Center were members learn to make new items which are then sold in the Senior Center gift store. March 11 will be the next workshop where the machine will get plenty of use making oven mitts. During March eight Bluffton and Pandora congregations will partner with Samaritan House and Crossroads Crisis Center in Lima, through the “Supply Our Sisters,” (SOS) program, according to Amy Mikesell.
SOS is a month-long collection of feminine hygiene products (pads and tampons of various types) and the churches are collection points.
“Women make up 32 percent of the homeless population. Feminine hygiene products are essential, but are rarely donated to homeless shelters and women’s resource centers,” said Mikesell.
Margie Sue Steinman, 73, died at 11:58 a.m. Feb. 17, 2015, at the Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora. She was born Nov. 2, 1941, in Bluffton to the late J. Adrian and Marceil Hilty Eck. She was married to Jerry Steinman, and they were divorced and he preceded her in death.
She had been a receptionist at Hancock Family Services. She was a member of the Pandora United Methodist Church and a member of Parents Without Partners. She was a graduate of Pandora-Gilboa High School and attended Bluffton College.
