Blanchard Valley Hospital’s Woman Wise Mammography will be offering free screening mammograms Friday, April 24 at Woman Wise located in the EasternWoods Outpatient Center, 15900 Medical Drive South, Findlay, as part of the Hancock County Mammography Screening Initiative (HCMSI).

Appointments for free mammograms will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to those who qualify. Women and men must meet eligibility criteria related to age, breast cancer risk and household income.

Doug Smith of Bluffton did some quick shopping on April 4 that didn't cost anything - except for the price of a raffle ticket.

Smith won the recent Bluffton Lions Club "shopping spree" at Bluffton's Community Market. The raffle raises funds for the Lions scholarship program.

The Bluffton Lions Scholarship committee is happy with the results of the tickets being purchased for the shopping spree, along with donations that have come in for the scholarship program. 

Nancy Jane Dyer, 107, died April 2, 2015, at 5:19 p.m. at  Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

She was born March 6, 1908, in Middlecreek, Ky., to George and Mary Tennessee (Prater) England who preceded her in death. On April 20, 1929, she married Gladys "Glad" Dyer who preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1978.

Although most of us recognize the importance of sound retirement planning, few of us embrace the nitty-gritty work involved. With thousands of investment possibilities, complex rules governing retirement plans, and so on, most people don't even know where to begin. Here are some suggestions to help you get started.

The Bluffton Hospital Auxiliary is selling hanging flower baskets now through April 22. Baskets are $20 and can be purchased from the gift shop or volunteer desk at Bluffton Hospital, 139 Garau Street, or by calling 419.423.5342.

Baskets include 12 inch wave petunias available in pink, purple or mixed colors grown by Stratton Greenhouse, Inc. Orders can be picked up at the Bluffton Hospital ER parking lot on May 7 from 3-7 p.m.

All proceeds from the flower sale benefit Bluffton Hospital.

The Bluffton Sportsmen Club has stocked approximately 400 pounds of rainbow
trout in the Buckeye Lake. For membership and other information, call Tom Augsburger at 419-384-3674.

Potential vendors for this year’s Bluffton farmers’ market are invited to a vendor information meeting at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 14, at 154 N. Main St. (Bluffton town hall third floor).

This year the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce oversees the market. Greg Probst is the market manager. A chamber farmers’ market subcommittee includes:
• Larry Hoffman, First National Bank, chamber board president
• Phil Zimmerly, Common Grounds coffee shop
• Peter Suter, Shirley’s Gourmet Popcorn Co., and Shannon Theatre

The subject was pedestrian and bike paths in Bluffton.

Bluffton council’s streets and alleys committee  of Joe Sehlhorst and Roger Warren was updated on the Bluffton Pedestrian and Bike Pathway Steering Committee progress during a joint meeting of both groups on April 2.

Fifteen persons, including several village officials plus pathway members, attended the meeting in the town hall, which was the first-ever between the pathway steering committee and the village.

Registration continues for the second annual Be A Beaver Triathlon, to be held Saturday, May 30, in Bluffton.

Participants may register at www.3disciplines.com; cost is $60 for individuals and $100 for relay teams, comprised of three people doing one event each and scoring as a team.
