Homecoming for Denny Dorrel

Last week was the Franklin County High School (FCHS) homecoming game and parade. This week was a very special homecoming for 1997 FCHS graduate Denny Dorrel. It was complete with balloons, cheering fans and a football team.

DTR Industries, Bluffton, will host a hiring day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24.

The day includes plant tours, same-day application  and interviews. DTR Industries is located at 320 Snider Road, Bluffton.

The Icon supports the 0.5 mil renewal levy of the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Allen, Auglaize and Hardin Counties. The levy is on the Nov. 3 ballot. If approved it will continue to support this agency’s current expenses for the next 10 years.

For 40 years, voters have approved this 0.5 mil levy, which supports basic mental health and alcohol and drug treatment for adults and children.

This renewal levy is not a new tax and ensures that these vial services for children, families and adults continue in our community.

The Bluffton High School Junior Class Post Prom Committee will hold a purse Bingo fundraiser.

It takes place at the old school building in Beaverdam on Saturday, Oct. 31. Doors open at 6 p.m. and Bingo starts at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door. Tickets may be purchased from Sherry Stratton or at the Bluffton High School or middle school offices between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.

Bluffton Baptist Church, 345 County Line Road, Bluffton, will hold a "trunk or treat" party from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24, at the church.

The event includes free hot dogs, cookies, chips and cider, fun themed trunks for ages 0 to 12. No scary costumes, please.

A "Mom-to-Mom Sale" will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, at Ebenezer Mennonite Church, 8905 Columbus Grove Road, Bluffton.

Admission is $2 or the donation of two canned goods. 

The event includes a large selection of childen's clothing sizes newboard to juniors and much more.

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Bluffton men’s soccer team battled through 110 minutes to tie the Manchester University Spartans by a 2-2 score on Tuesday, Oct. 13. The tie gets the Beavers to 0-11-1, while Manchester is now 4-6-3.
