Jamey Rettig, a 2016 Cory-Rawson High School graduate, is recipient of a $2,500 Building our Future Scholarship from Habitat for Humanity of Ohio.

The award was presented in recognition of our outstanding work in the classroom and her service to the Findlay community.

Scholarships are available to students of families in homes built or repaired by Habitat for Humanity. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in the classroom and through public service.

Rettig will attend Wittenberg University and pursue a degree in education.

Trinity Lutheran Church and School, Jenera, welcomes three new teachers with an installation service on Sunday, Aug. 7, at 10:30 a.m. 

Installed will be Justin Eternick as principal and 7th and 8th grade teacher, Joshua von Stein as teacher of grades 5 and 6 and Seth Lange as teacher of grades 3 and 4. 

Eternick is a 2009 graduate of Lakeside Lutheran High School, Lake Mills, Wisc. He attended Martin Luther College and graduated with a double major in elementary and secondary education with a social studies minor.

The Pandora United Methodist Church will hold a free community meal on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 5:30-7 p.m. in the church fellowship hall, 108 E. Washington Street, Pandora. The meal this month is provided by the missions committee. The menu is sausage sandwich, sauerkraut, wedding noodles, watermelon, assorted cookies, punch, water and coffee.

Ohio is having a sales tax holiday this weekend. The holiday will occur Friday, August 5, 2016 and end Sunday, August 7, 2016.

Items exempt from sale and use tax include clothing priced at $75 per item or less and school supplies and instructional material priced at $20 per item or less.

Yes, it was hotter and dryer in July 2016 than most of the Julys that you remember.

According to Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer, three days in July had temperature readings of 91 degrees. Those were July 13 and two days in a row – July 22 and 23.

The low reading of the month was 53 degrees back on July 2.

The average July 2016 temperature was 75.3 degrees. The normal July average is 73.2 degrees.

The average July rainfall is 3.80 inches. This July recorded only 0.88 inches of rain. Those were five days during the month when only traces were recorded.

On Aug. 3, St. Rita’s Health Partners donated an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to the Bluffton Airport.

AEDs are portable devices that check the heart rhythm and are used to treat sudden cardiac arrest.

The devices come equipped with instructions and can be used by bystanders who witness a sudden cardiac arrest.

It had all the elements of a small town summer party.

National Night Out, an event for communities to get to know their police officers came off like a charm on Tuesday evening.

This year's third annual NNO was even larger than last year - and we thought last year's night would be tough to top.

The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) recently announced the 2015-16 NABC Honors Court, recognizing those men’s collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season.

The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. 2015-16 seniors Mitchel Huffman (Accounting) and Billy Taflinger (Mathematics) along with juniors Adam Hopkins (Criminal Justice) and Trey Elchert (Education) were all selected according to the criteria that is listed below.

Judith Ruth Augsburger, 82, of Bluffton died Aug. 2, 2016, at 2 a.m. at her residence.  Judith was born Jan. 21, 1934 in Cortez, Florida, to the late John and Mamie (Bonnell) McDonald who were commercial fishermen. On Feb. 12, 1956 she married Bill Augsburger who preceded her in death on April 29, 1987.

Imagine having an August birthday celebrated in the winter.

Bluffton native, Tim Pannabecker, now resident of New Zeeland, did that since August below the equator is in its winter season. His birthday was Aug. 1.
