Tonya Meyer, Bluffton Senior Citizens Center director, reminds persons 65 and older that Medicare open enrollment period takes place from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7.

"It is a good idea to take another look at your plans if you have had any health changes," she said. The Allen County Council of Aging can also assist  with questions.

A volunteer Bible study leader is needed for Willow Ridge campus of Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio.

Erin Schroeder said, "We are in need of a Bible study leader for our Frieda House on Thursday mornings or late afternoons. The study can be in depth or as light as the volunteer desires. Also, we provide hymn books if volunteers would like to use them."

Invitation for community groups to sponsor trees, wreaths or decorations

Planning is underway for the Ada Community Health Professionals 19th annual Festival of Trees.

This year's festival is from Sunday to Friday, Nov. 13-18 at Community Health Professionals, 1200 S. Main St., Ada.

Deb Curlis of CHP says, "Community groups and individuals are invited to sponsor a tree, wreath or decoration for the fund-raiser. Proceeds assist CHP's hospice program."

The schedule follows:

Two community meals are set for October at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center. Each meal is free - donations of canned goods or cash accepted for The Food Pantry.

Meals are open to the public at 6 p.m. at the Center, 132 N. Main St., Bluffton.

Thursday, Oct. 6 - hosted by Bluffton Lions Club
Thursday, Oct. 20 - hosted by Ebenezer Mennonite Church

Must income qualify for eligibility

Vance Street Apartments, 137 Vance St., Bluffton, has immediate availability for income based efficiency and one bedroom apartments for persons 55 years old and up.

Income guidelines are:
1 person: $20,450
2 persons: $23,400

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Bluffton University senior Lauren Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) has been named the Heartland Conference Player of the Week following a pair of victories by the Beavers. She led Bluffton to a win over Earlham in the Heartland Conference opener on Wednesday and a non-league victory at Denison on Friday night.

Saturday, Oct. 8, at The Quarry Farm Nature Preserve, rural Pandora

Bluffton Public Library wants its patrons to take a hike - and the library staff means it.

Actually, it's a guide hike. It's at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, at The Quarry Farm Nature Preserve, 14321 Road 7L, Pandora. A rain date is Oct. 22.

The family-friendly event will include an approximately one-hour guided hike on the preserve.

Persons attending can visit farm animals, and will be followed by refreshments at the shelterhouse, courtesy of The Quarry Farm.

Paula Scott leads Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs workshop

Bluffton Center for  Entrepreneurs will provide a free Facebook workshop following the Friday, Oct. 14, Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce breakfast.

Paula Scott will provide workshop participants with some new tips and information on using Facebook to benefit your business. The workshop follows the chamber breakfast at 8:45 a.m. and is free and open to the public.

Van Buren Black Knights visited the Bluffton Pirates  on Saturday for a non-conference game and gave BHS its third loss of the season: 1-0.
 
Ryan Turner took one of two Van Buren shots on goal at the 6th minute of the game and got it past Bluffton’s keeper, Levi Smith.
 
The balance of the game was intense, muddy, and scoreless.
 
Bluffton took nine shots on goal to two for Van Buren.
 
Van Buren’s keeper, Hunter Fleck had nine saves, to one for Levi Smith.
 
Bluffton’s JV team prevailed, 3-0.
