The Bluffton Area Ministerial Association ecumenical Cross Walk ending in the community observance of Good Friday takes place on April 14.

The Cross Walk begins this year at 11:30 a.m. at English Lutheran Church, and proceeds to St. John’s United Church of Christ, Bluffton Presbyterian Church, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, First United Methodist Church, and ends at First Mennonite Church.

The service of worship following the walk begins at noon at First Mennonite.
 
 

ONU pharmacy students will provide several services

Greg's Pharmacy, 126 N. Main St., Bluffton, will hold a free health fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, according to Andrea Williams, manager.

Ohio Northern University pharmacy students from the National Community Pharmacist Association (NCPA) will be at Greg's to provide the following free services:
• Cholesterol screening (please fast for 8 hours)
• Bone density screening (osteoporosis)
• Blood glucose tesing (please fast for 8 hours)
• Blood pressure checks

Monday's OVAL program at Senior Center

Fran Core will discuss the book “Creatures of the Kingdom,” by James Michener during Monday's “Our Version of Adult Learning” (OVAL) offered by the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center.

The book takes readers into the minds of animals and the world of nature.

The free program open to the public takes place at the Center, 132 N. Main St.,  at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 10.

Two remaining OVAL April programs are:

Various Bluffton University musical ensembles will come together Friday, April 7, to present the annual Pops Concert at 7:30 p.m. in Founders Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
 
The Bluffton University Concert Band will perform various selections including a wind band transcription of “Buckaroo Holiday,” music from Aaron Copeland’s ballet “Rodeo.” The band will be led by Dr. Roy Couch and senior music education major Aaron Johnson of Goshen, Ind.
 

The project could take place in 2018

A separate pathway for walkers, joggers and bike riders along Bentley Road took a step forward on Thursday.

Meeting with the Bluffton council street and alley committee, Bluffton Pathway Board members provided a “here’s where we are today” update.

Dick Ramseyer, pathway chair, explained how a side path would handle biking and foot traffic along Bentley from Augsburger to the bridge near Grove Street.

The side path would separate motorized vehicles from pedestrians along the heavily trafficked road.

Tickets now on sale for May 5-6 performances

Bluffton University will present “Sondheim on Sondheim,” a musical revue, for the May Day musical on May 5 and 6.

Dr. Melissa Friesen, a professor of theatre and communication at Bluffton,
will direct the show, to be staged at 7:30 p.m. each evening in Yoder Recital
Hall. Dr. Crystal Sellers Battle, an associate professor of music, is musical
director.

Owen Bischoff, a Bluffton High School senior, is the Bluffton Icon's high school artist of the month.

The sculpture Owen holds was accepted into the Ohio Governor Show. From the 11,500 regional entries from the 15 regions, approximately 2,500 are selected to enter the state judging. State jurors then select 300 for the actual exhibition.

Owen has taken Ceramics 1 and intends to go  to college for mechanical engineering, according to Vickie Garmon, BHS art teacher.

As March weather goes, 2017 was pretty average, according to Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer.

March normal average temperature: 38 degrees
March 2017 average temperature: 38.6 degrees
March normal precipitation: 2.58 inches
March 2017 precipitation: 2.39 inches

Some additional March weather stats include 3.9 inches of snowfall recorded. The month’s low reading was 12 on March 14 and 15. The high reading was 75 on March 24.

BLUFFTON, Ohio - A pair of delays for lightning and rain ended game two before the required five innings as Bluffton improved to 15-6 overall in 1-2 in the Heartland Conference thanks to a 2-0 shutout in the opener. Defiance slipped to 10-11 and 0-1 in the HCAC.
