All-Heartland Conference release

Program will begin in the fall

Bluffton University is offering a new degree-completion program starting in the fall of 2017. A bachelor of arts in accounting joins Bluffton’s current degree-completion options of organizational management and nursing.

Plans to major in civil engineering at ONU

Phillip Tatarkov is the April Bluffton High School student of the month.

Philip is a senior at Bluffton High School and has a 4.0 grade point average. He is on the yearbook committee. He played soccer his sophomore and junior years and also lettered in track.

He was awarded the "Student of the Year" in 2016 for Anatomy and in 2015 he earned a second place for his ceramic project in the Kewpee Art Contest/Sculpture division.

In his spare time he likes to do scratch board art, make glass arrowheads and draw. 

...And the Toledo Zoo & Aquarium and Bluffton’s Fire Department, Police Department, and EMS will be there to celebrate!

Every summer, Bluffton Public Library’s goal is to encourage people of all ages to learn and grow throughout every stage of their lives. Continuing with this tradition, this summer’s theme is “Build a Better World.”

A young screech owl moved into the Icon's backyard on Grove Street earlier this month. Over this past weekend, the owl decided to remain awake during the day.

It continued its owl calls throughout Saturday afternoon. Here's a photo of the bird, in a maple tree at about 40 feet above ground. This photo was taken in the middle of the afternoon and the owl's eyes are open.

Summer hours at Bluffton Family Recreation will begin on Saturday, May 27, according to Joseph Beagle, director.

Summer hours follow:
• Mondays, 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Tuesdays, 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Wednesdays, 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• Thursdays, 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Fridays, 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Sundays, 1 to 5 p.m.

BFR will be closed on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29.

A memorial service for Jay D. Bricker will begin at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 20, at the First United Methodist Church, Bluffton.

NFCA All-Region

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Junior JOSIE MCELROY (Mt. Orab/Western Brown) has been named All-Central Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). This is the second year in a row that McElroy has been named All-Central Region. It marks the eighth NFCA All-Region selection for the Beavers and McElroy’s fourth post-season award in her career at Bluffton.

Registration is underway for the 2017 Bluffton Bucs midget football season.

Saturday, June 3, at Bluffton Golf Club

Bluffton American Legion Post 382 hosts its 8th annual golf scramble, Saturday, June 3, at the Bluffton Golf Club, 8575 Dixie Highway.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. and tee time starts at 9 a.m. Cost to play is $50 per person or $200 per team. Registration includes green fees and cart, steak dinner and door prizes.
