Ohio Northern scored early and often in a sweep of the Bluffton University volleyball team on Sept. 11, just three days removed from a five-set affair between the close-in-proximity rivals at the Sommer Center Spiketacular. Bluffton dipped to 2-7 on the year, while #20 ONU improved to 7-2.
Down two sets to none and 22-16 in the third, sophomore Chelsey Taylor (Hicksville) took over at the service line and rattled off four consecutive points, including three aces, to pull the visitors within two points at 22-20.
Lisa Rettig has been promoted to senior vice president and director of human Resources at Citizens National Bank, announced J. Michael Romey, president and CEO.
In her HR role, Rettig is responsible for directing human resource activities related to talent acquisition, succession planning, employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, and training and development of the bank’s staff members.
Dr. Jackie Wyse-Rhodes, assistant professor of religion at Bluffton University, will present the Colloquium, “Reading the Cosmos in Second Temple Jewish Literature: Nature as Model, Sign, Punishment, Witness and Mystery,” at 4 p.m. on Sept. 21 in Centennial Hall’s Stutzman Lecture Hall.
Wyse-Rhodes, who recently completed her doctoral dissertation on the topic, will consider portrayals of the natural world in early Jewish and Christian literature.
Three Bluffton University athletes were named players of the week in their sports.
Adam Duncan (Northwood, Ohio/Lake) scored all 13 points in Bluffton's 34-13 loss at No. 19 Trine and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Player of the Week on special teams.
The next big event on Ada's calendar is the 33rd annual Ada Area Chamber of Commerce's Harvest and Herb Festival in downtown Ada, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 15. As in past year’s, it will fill Ada’s Main Street from Highland to College.
The festival has 180 spaces available for vendors and so far over 150 spaces are signed-up. Crafters are encouraged to register as soon as possible to insure a booth.
Booths are 12 feet wide by 8 feet deep and are available while they last.
Bluffton council changed its monthly utility billing procedure on Monday.
At the recommendation of its utility committee and ordinance committee, residential property owners will receive utility bills on the rental properties that they own in the village.
This is a change from utility bills currently going directly to renters of residential properties in the village.
The change affects between 125 and 145 rental properties.
Last week we asked Icon viewers to identify the location of the rabbit in this photo. The rabbit is painted on the mural on the Mercy Health building and can be seen from East Elm Street.

Members of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 N. Main St., Jenera, will observe the annual Shipwreck Remembrance on Sunday, Sept. 16.
The services, at 8 and 10:30 a.m. remembers the passengers on the “Famous Dove” when it was shipwrecked off the east coast of the United States on Sept. 17, 1831.
Many of the passengers coming from Germany were the founders of Trinity. During a terrible storm, the passengers prayed and sang hymns. The next morning, they saw that they were just off the coast of Virginia.
