Laura Selvidio, nurse midwife, joins the staff of Blanchard Valley Obstetrics and Gynecology, Bluffton

“I enjoy bringing life into the world. It’s amazing,” Laura Selvidio, nurse midwife, says about her profession.

Earlier this month she became the second nurse midwife to join the staff of Blanchard Valley Obstetrics and Gynecology, Bluffton.

Selvidio, a certified nurse midwife (CNM), practiced in Georgia and Alaska since 2015 prior to coming to Bluffton. She joins another nurse midwife, Missy Moore, on the staff. Selvidio is in the Bluffton office four days each week.

Former Bluffton pharmacist Robert W. Millager, 84, died July 11, 2019, at The Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay.

Bob was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Aug. 17, 1934, to the late Robert and Margaret (Gelhar) Millager. Bob married Beverly Pingle on Dec. 31, 1957, who survives him in Bluffton.

Bob graduated from Howe Military School and Ohio Northern School of Pharmacy. After serving as an army medic during the Korean War, Bob enjoyed a successful career as a pharmacist, retiring in 2011.

Bob was a member of the Bluffton American Legion and Pandora Missionary Church.

Roland Moore Knoop, 91, died July 5, 2019 at 3 p.m. at Willow Ridge, Bluffton, Ohio.

He was born on March 14, 1928, in Troy, Ohio to J. Ross and Ethel Mae (Moore) Knoop and they preceded him in death.  In 1958 he married Eloise Crawford and they are divorced.

Roland retired from Schmidlapp Equipment in Covington, Ohio, where he had been a parts man. He previously worked at the Soil Conservation Service in Hardin County for 5 years and was owner of the John Deere Dealership in Kenton from 1965 to 1969. 

Joseph Bischoff, 70, died July 13, 2019, at 5:45 p.m. at his residence in rural Ada, Ohio.

He was born Oct. 10, 1948, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Robert J. and Eloise (Walker) Bischoff.  On Dec. 19, 1970 he married Anita (Christopher Berkshire) and she survives.

Joe was a 1966 graduate of Ada High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Urbana University. He was part owner of Highway Oil Company, a family business, for over 20 years and co-owner of the Highway Animal Farm.

You've heard the "It's hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk."

The Bluffton Family Recreation staff (Jamie Nygaard's idea) tests that statement today. An egg reflects in the sun at BFR as we speak.

Jamie promises a photo of herself eating the egg if (when) it reaches the proper temperature.

Five area biking events in the next 12 months

Bluffton's 5th annual Ride to Remember bicycle ride is Saturday, headquartered at Bluffton Family Recreation.

It is one of several bike events on this year's Black Swamp Bike Tours.

Chef Tim Cooper, executive chef at Birchaven Village, a division of Blanchard Valley Health System, will be the featured presenter at the 2019 Salsa! Salsa! event. 

The community event will take place on Thursday, Aug. 1, from 4 -6 p.m. at the Hancock Farmers’ Market, 200 West Main Cross Street (Findlay).

Chef Cooper will be presenting a live demonstration of salsa preparations and other preparations. Each attendee will receive a complimentary recipe card from his personal cookbook and tasty samples.

Bluffton Community Assistance Program announces a change in this month's food pantry distribution dates, according to Ed Yeager, board president.

The Wednesday, July 24, date is moved to 7 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 31. The change is due to St. John's United Church of Christ as the host church for Community Vacation Bible School on the evenings of Sunday through Thursday, July 22-25.

From Bluffton Area Ministerial Assn. and Community Assistance Program

The Bluffton Ministerial Association and Bluffton Community Assistance Program will provide free school supplies to Bluffton school district children on the free and/or reduced lunch program again this year.

The distribution takes place from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Aug. 10, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 223 W. College Ave., Bluffton.
