Sophomore Brianna Gillig (New Riegel) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week for her work against Heidelberg on  Nov. 26.

Gillig just missed her third career double-double, putting up 22 points and pulling down nine boards, as Bluffton downed the Student Princes 70-65 at home on Tuesday night when the Beavers improved to 4-0 on the season.

“Have you pooped today? Did you have any problem with pooping?” It seems I have this kind of conversation with my son at home every day.

As a doctor, I usually need to ask similar pooping questions for every well visit and even most acute visits at the office.

As we all know, a normal bowel pattern is a very important sign of our good health. However, constipation is a very common health problem in children of all ages.

What is constipation in children?

Birchaven Village will host its annual Bazaar Days’ craft and bake sale on Friday, Dec. 13, through Monday, Dec. 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The special event will take place on Birchaven’s indoor “Main Street,” 15100 Birchaven Lane, Findlay. The event is open to the public.

Bazaar Days will feature a variety of items handmade by residents, staff, volunteers and families. Items for sale include:

Homemade hardtack candy, fudge, buckeyes and dipped pretzels

Hand-crocheted doilies and other items

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton tipped off girls basketball Northwest Conference play with a hard-fought 50-46 win over Delphos Jefferson Thursday night.

The Lady Pirates improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the NWC with their second straight victory. Meanwhile, DJ fell to 1-2 and 0-1 in the league with the defeat.

Mercy Health and the Putnam YMCA share a common mission to improve the health and well-being of their communities.

The Putnam County YMCA and Mercy Health have partnered to bring renovations and improved access to the YMCA facility at 101 Putnam Parkway in Ottawa, Ohio.  The “Mercy Health Fitness Room” will feature new equipment, cameras for security, and improved Wi-Fi coverage for members and guests of the YMCA.

He was a WWII Navy veteran

Wayne Dale Shafer, 94 of Bluffton, Ohio, died on Dec. 5, 2019. Wayne was born on June 2, 1925 in Leipsic, Ohio, to the late Orville and Ocie (Herman) Shafer.  He was married to Treva (Marquart) Shafer for 73 years. Wayne worked for Marathon Oil Company in Findlay for 26 years. Wayne and Treva were long-time members of the English Lutheran Church in Bluffton.

Work starts Monday and continues through the week

The Village of Bluffton is contracting J&D Snyder to replace 440 feet of sewer line on County Line Road, according to Bryan Lloyd, assistant village administrator.

"This work will take place mostly in the tree lawn on the west side of the road starting at East Elm Street and heading south," he said.

J&D Snyder is planning on beginning the work Monday, Dec. 9. The work should take approximately one week to complete. During this time some lane restrictions and delays are to be expected on County Line as well as East Elm Street.
