2020 permit totals very similar to 2019

2020 and 2019 building permits for the first half of each year are posted at the bottom of this story -

Village of Bluffton building permits totaled over $1.5 million in first six months of 2020, according to the village office.

Thirty-six permits were issued totaling $1,520,054 in construction during that period. Residential accounted for $1,499.504 of that total with commercial/industrial coming in at $20,550.

Amanda E. Crates of Dunkirk has been appointed to the Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors for a term beginning July 27, 2020, and ending June 30, 2023. The appointment was announced this week by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine.

And, village planning commission discusses two possible projects

One for certain and two development discussions.

Jesse Blackburn, village administrator reported plans for a Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant to go into the former Burger King restaurant at 499 State Route 103.

The announcement was part of the administrator’s report during the July 27 Bluffton council meeting. The new owners plan to raze the Burger King building beginning Aug. 3 and replace it with a new structure by mid-November. Watch the Icon developments on this project.

School's appropriations will reach $20.3 million

Bluffton school board will act on several items pertaining to the 2020-21 school year at tonight’s board meeting.

Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Council of Presidents decision

After extensive deliberations, the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Council of Presidents has unanimously voted to modify the timing of conference competition and championships for fall sports classified by the NCAA as high contact risk (football, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball).

Nand Lal Girotra, 80, died July 26, 2020 at Mercy Health - St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.  

Nand Lal was born Jan. 1, 1940, in India to Ram Lal and Ramditti (Dhingra) Girotra who preceded him in death. He was raised by his father and step-mother, He married Santosh Katyal Girotra who survives.  

Bluffton Community Assistance Program and the Bluffton Area Ministerial Association are ready to get back to school.

In August the Bluffton Area Ministerial Association and the assistance program will provide free school supplies to students on the free/and or reduced lunch program within the Bluffton school district.

The distribution is from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Aug. 8, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 223 W. College Ave.

There are 37 additional coats of paint under Jeff's art work, and 16 coats on top of it, not counting at least one street paving job. So, Jeff's art work is probably gone but not forgotten.
