Rachel Ann Schutz, 94, died Oct. 28, 2020, at her residence. Rachel was born Sept. 15, 1926, in Berne, Indiana, to the late Menno and Leota (Sprunger) Eicher.  On Aug. 5, 1950, she married Oliver Schutz who preceded her in death on April 6, 2011. 

Rachel was a homemaker and also worked as a custodian at Grace Mennonite Church in Pandora for many years.  She was a member of Grace Mennonite Church in Pandora where she served as a deaconess and various other positions.  

Interstate 75 between Napoleon Road and State Route 235, just south of the village of Beaverdam to three miles north of the village of Bluffton, will experience lane restrictions and ramp closures for paving and reconstruction through November 2020.

I-75 southbound between the villages of Bluffton and Beaverdam will have daytime lane restrictions until noon, and nighttime lane restrictions, 7 p.m. – 7 a.m.

Here are scheduled Bluffton council meetings for November. All meetings will be in the Village’s Town Hall unless noted.

• Bluffton in Bloom Committee – Tuesday, 11/3, 7 p.m.
• Pathway Board – Thursday, 11/5, noon, via Zoom.
• Council Meeting – Monday, 11/9, 7 p.m.

Funeral service Saturday for immediate family

Elizabeth Doris (Bormuth) Bower, 104 of rural Jenera died on Wednesday, October 28, 2020.  

She was born on April 8, 1916, in Jenera to the late Oliver and Alma (Schaller) Bormuth. On Nov. 4, 1936 she married Ezra Bower and he preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 1995.

She is survived by her son, David (Karen) Bower of Jenera, daughter, Ilene (Larry) Parke of Findlay, son-in-law, LaVerne Freed of rural Forest. Mrs. 

First third quarters of 2020 reached $3.79 million • That was $2.3 million in 2019

Building permits from Jan. 1 to Sept. 30

Village of Bluffton building permits totaled a little over $1.6 million in the third quarter of 2020, according to the village office. That is almost double the $850,000 figure from 2019’s third quarter.

Twenty-seven permits were issued from July 1 through Sept. 30, which included 26 residential permits and one commercial permit, which was an $18,650 demolition of the former Burger King building.

Allen County continues to experience widespread community transmission of COVID-19.  

The incidence rate for Allen County is considered to be high, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), who reached out to Allen County Public Health Friday, Oct. 23, to discuss what the CDC considers to be a “hot spot” of COVID-19 incidence.  

To date in October there have been 810 newly reported cases of COVID-19, which is 55% higher than the number for August, 2020 which was previously the highest-incidence month with 522 total.
