There's still time to order a Thanksgiving turkey from The Dough Hook, according to Marlena Ballinger.

The Dough Hook, 117 N. Main St., Bluffton, is taking orders for Thanksgiving turkeys, through Thursday, Nov. 19. The Dough Hook's turkeys are Bowman Landes, Ohio raised.

"Our turkeys are fresh and never frozen," she said. "They are gourmet, free-range, antibiotic-free, all vegetable fed and ready to cook."

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced that Ohio Department of Health Interim Director Lance Himes signed a revised health order to limit mass gatherings in Ohio. This order takes effect at midnight tonight (Monday, Nov. 16).

“Despite the health order that limited mass gatherings to 10 people that was signed in April remaining in effect, we have seen rampant spread of the virus as a result of banquets, wedding receptions, and social gatherings following funerals,” said Governor DeWine.

"All these years later, I still remember the dread I felt before taking the quarry test. This wasn't a written exam, and it had nothing to do with school. It was a rite of passage for any Bluffton kid from around the mid-1950s to the early-1990s who wanted to earn the right to swim in the Buckeye." - Rick Ramseyer

And, perhaps your second, maybe even your third, probably your fourth?

Did Alan Yoder administer your first-ever eye exam? And, perhaps your second? Maybe your third? Probably your fourth? And maybe your parent’s, or your children’s exams?

Did you ever call him after-hours with an eye-related issue, and he said, “I’ll meet you up at the office in about 15 minutes.” Often he’d be there before you arrived.

If so, you are not alone. For 55 or 56 years, depending upon how you look at the calendar, Dr. Alan Yoder, was probably your eye doctor.

In our culture, the barbershop has a niche of its own.

Many barbers served Bluffton over the years. And, they have faded into the town woodwork.

We compiled a list of them after a hearing a long lecture on the subject about 40 years ago given by the late Rolland Stratton. He knew more about Bluffton than any other person on Main Street.

I liked this book, and appreciate the local librarian who recommended it to me

James Patterson hits it out of the park in this double header.

“The world's best selling author” no longer writes his own books, of which he produces a plethora each year. He “coauthors” with carefully chosen writers, leading to different flavors for each book. In this example, “Murder Thy Neighbor- True Crime Thrillers” (ISBN 978-1-5387-5241-8)  he gives us two different stories of damaged people by two different authors in the same volume.

The following is a sample of the content of "Blufton Anthology - A creek runs through it." Pre-sale discounted copies are now available for $19.95 plus tax.

"The 1950s were dangerous times for kids growing up in Bluffton. We grew up in homes and went to school in buildings painted with lead paint and floors covered with asbestos tiles." - Rudi Steiner
